Two Goals Each as Koné and Martínez Share the Spotlight in 2-2 Draw

Manu Koné scored twice, but Roma’s perfect start was halted as AS Roma drew 2-2 with Inter at Stadio Olimpico. Roma led 2-0 at half-time before Lautaro Martínez struck twice after the interval to earn Inter a point in Serie A Round 5.

Roma take control before the break

Roma moved ahead in the sixth minute. Koné finished a move assisted by N. Molina, giving the home side an early lead. The midfielder added his second in the 37th minute, with G. Mancini providing the assist. Roma therefore carried a two-goal advantage into half-time after a decisive opening period.

Inter responded immediately after the restart. Martínez reduced the deficit in the 46th minute following an assist from M. Thuram. The visitors then completed the comeback in the 79th minute, when Martínez scored again from a pass by Y. Bisseck. His two goals changed a match that had appeared to be moving firmly in Roma’s direction.

Inter’s pressure reflected in the numbers

The statistics suggest Inter had the stronger overall attacking output despite the final score. Inter held 51% possession and completed 402 accurate passes, compared with Roma’s 49% and 387. The visitors also led expected goals 2.37 to 1.69 and registered five shots on goal to Roma’s four.

Roma produced more total shots, 18 to 16, and had seven blocked efforts to Inter’s three. The home team also won four corners to two. Those figures underline the contrast in the match: Roma were more prolific in volume and protected their goal advantage for long periods, while Inter’s chances were more effective after the interval. Both sides finished with three offsides and three goalkeeper saves were recorded for Roma compared with two for Inter.

Cards and changes shape the second half

Inter received yellow cards for N. Barella in the 11th minute, M. Akanji just before half-time and A. Bastoni in the 57th. Roma’s cautions went to E. Ndicka, K. Koulierakis and D. Ghilardi. Several substitutions followed the interval, including Inter changes involving P. Sucic, Carlos Augusto and Luis Henrique, while Ndicka, N. Pisilli and D. Rensch entered for Roma.

Koné stands out despite the draw

Koné was the highest-rated player, scoring 9.2 after 60 minutes and finishing with two goals and two shots on target. Martínez was Inter’s standout performer at 8.3, with two goals, two key passes and two tackles in 89 minutes. Roma’s result ended their run of four wins, while Inter also moved from four straight victories to a draw.

Both teams entered the round on 12 points from four matches. The draw takes each to 13 points after five games, with Roma still ranked first and Inter second. Both remain unbeaten at 4W 1D 0L, and their listed goal differences stay at 11 for Roma and seven for Inter.
