Mastantuono’s hat-trick lifts Fiorentina to 4-2 win

Fiorentina defeated Venezia 4-2 at Stadio Pierluigi Penzo on Friday, earning their first Serie A points of the season. The visitors led 2-1 at half-time after a fast exchange of goals, then pulled away in the second half despite Venezia having most of the possession.

Six goals and an early shift in momentum

Venezia opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. G. Busio provided the assist for A. Adams, who finished a normal goal to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Fiorentina responded quickly. F. Mastantuono equalised in the 29th minute after an assist from A. Jimenez, then struck again one minute later, with Beto supplying the final pass.

That turnaround put Fiorentina ahead 2-1 before the break. Venezia made an early change in the 44th minute, replacing G. Busio with T. J. Helgason. Fiorentina extended its advantage in the 66th minute when N. Fagioli assisted M. Pellegrino. Mastantuono completed his hat-trick in the 84th minute, before Venezia reduced the deficit two minutes later through A. Hainaut, assisted by R. Haps.

Venezia had the ball, but Fiorentina created more

The statistics showed a clear contrast between possession and attacking output. Venezia completed 62% of the possession and made 544 passes, compared with Fiorentina’s 337. The hosts also recorded 485 accurate passes at an 89% rate. However, Fiorentina produced 19 total shots to Venezia’s 11, including 10 shots on goal to four, and held a substantial expected-goals advantage of 3.35 to 0.71.

Fiorentina’s 15 shots inside the box also exceeded Venezia’s nine. Filip Stanković made six saves for Venezia, while Fiorentina’s goalkeeper made two. The figures suggest that Venezia controlled more of the ball, but Fiorentina attacked with greater threat and efficiency.

Discipline and league impact

J. Schingtienne was booked for Venezia in the 38th minute. A. Njie received Fiorentina’s only yellow card in the 72nd minute, followed by S. Sohm’s booking for Venezia one minute later. Further Venezia substitutions included R. Sagrado for T. Correia and M. Moreno for Juan Jesus in the 69th minute, with J. Yeboah replaced by T. Fernandez in the 80th.
