Sarmiento’s Efficient 2-0 Win Leaves Huracan Chasing

Sarmiento Junin defeated Huracan 2-0 at Estadio Eva Perón on Sunday, securing a convincing Liga Profesional Argentina Clausura victory despite having only 32% possession. J. Marabel opened the scoring before L. Suarez added a late second, while Huracan finished without a shot on target.

Marabel Gives Sarmiento the Lead

Sarmiento established the advantage in the 30th minute when J. Marabel scored to make it 1-0. The goal gave Facundo Sava’s 4-4-2 a reward for its more direct approach, with the hosts creating greater danger in and around the penalty area.

The opener remained the only goal before the interval, although Sarmiento’s attacking numbers showed why they carried the greater threat. The hosts recorded nine shots inside the box, compared with only one for Huracan, and held their lead into half-time.

Huracan’s Possession Fails to Produce Chances

Huracan enjoyed most of the ball but struggled to turn that control into opportunities. Diego Martinez’s side had 68% possession, completed 274 accurate passes at an 81% rate and attempted eight shots, yet none found the target.

Sarmiento, by contrast, produced a more effective attacking display with 14 total shots, three on target and six corners. The expected-goals figures further underlined the difference in chance quality, with Sarmiento reaching 1.41 compared with Huracan’s 0.15.

Caicedo Red Card Turns the Match

The decisive disciplinary incident arrived in the 66th minute when J. Caicedo was sent off for Huracan. The visitors had already been unable to test Sarmiento’s goalkeeper, and the red card left them with an even more difficult task as they looked for an equaliser.

The dismissal came during a physical contest that produced 24 fouls, with Sarmiento committing 11 and Huracan 13. Rodrigo Fernandez, O. Cortes and J. Bisanz also received yellow cards for Huracan, while J. Mavilla and J. Contrera were booked for the hosts.

Suarez Seals Victory and Clausura Progress

Sarmiento finally sealed the result in the 86th minute through L. Suarez, who finished from an assist by G. Gonzalez. The late goal ended any remaining uncertainty and confirmed a home win in the fifth Clausura round.

The victory takes Sarmiento to nine points from five matches, following a record of three wins and two defeats in Group B. Huracan remain on seven points from five games after their second Clausura loss, while Julian Contrera stood out for the winners with a 7.3 rating, four key passes and three tackles in 75 minutes.
