Sam Surridge’s brace earns Nashville a 2-2 draw at Inter Miami

Inter Miami drew 2-2 with Nashville SC at Nu Stadium on Saturday, with both sides sharing the points after a match that finished level. The official half-time score was 1-1, while the result left Nashville top of the Eastern Conference and Inter Miami second.

Surridge strikes twice

Nashville made the early breakthrough in the fourth minute. Sam Surridge finished a move assisted by Andy Najar, setting the tone for a productive night in front of goal. Alex Muyl was booked five minutes later, before Reed Baker-Whiting was recorded with an own goal for Inter Miami in the 19th minute. The first half also saw yellow cards for Inter Miami’s Fricio Caicedo and Nashville’s Maxwell Woledzi.

Inter Miami responded after the interval. Lionel Messi scored in the 62nd minute, with Rodrigo De Paul providing the assist. Messi’s goal gave the hosts a second-half lift, but Nashville remained dangerous and found an equaliser in the 90th minute when Surridge scored again. His second goal completed the scoring and earned Nashville a point.

Possession favours Miami, shots favour Nashville

Inter Miami controlled more of the ball, recording 62% possession and 552 total passes compared with Nashville’s 38% and 321 passes. The hosts also completed 497 accurate passes, well ahead of Nashville’s 288. That control did not translate into a greater shot volume, however. Nashville attempted 18 shots to Miami’s 14 and had 11 efforts from inside the box to Miami’s nine.

Miami registered five shots on target and forced three saves, while Nashville put three attempts on target and faced three goalkeeper saves. The numbers underline the even outcome: Inter Miami had the territorial and passing advantage, but Nashville created more attempts. Both teams were flagged offside once, and neither received a red card.

Table positions remain unchanged

Nashville’s draw extended its record to 16 wins, six draws and three losses, giving the leaders 54 points from 25 matches. Inter Miami moved to 45 points from the same number of games, with 12 wins, nine draws and four losses. The result added another draw to Miami’s recent sequence and also gave Nashville a result consistent with its strong season, though neither side took all three points.

Surridge was the standout performer, earning a 9.1 rating after playing all 90 minutes and scoring twice. Messi was Miami’s leading contributor with a rating of 8.2, one goal, four shots on target and three key passes. De Paul also completed the match with an assist and three key passes.

Further substitutions followed the second-half momentum, including Miami changes involving Facundo Mura and Matías Galarza. Galarza was booked in the 90th minute, while Miami’s Germán Berterame was cautioned in the 86th.
