Atletico-MG take control before late Vitoria response

Atletico-MG defeated Vitoria 2-1 at Arena MRV in Belo Horizonte on Saturday, with the home side holding on after a late goal from Erick. The result came in Serie A’s regular-season Round 25, after Atletico-MG led 1-0 at half-time.

The opening goal arrived in the 25th minute. Reinier supplied the assist for T. Borbas, who finished to put Atletico-MG ahead. The home side continued to control the match after the break, and Reinier added the second goal in the 63rd minute. Vitoria responded in the 87th minute when Erick, who had entered in the 69th minute, scored to reduce the deficit, but there was no further comeback.

Atletico-MG had the clearer share of the play, with 61% possession and 624 total passes compared with Vitoria’s 379. Their passing accuracy was also higher at 91%, against 83% for the visitors. The home side recorded 18 shots and eight on target, while Vitoria had 13 shots but only two on target.

The statistics show both Atletico-MG’s control and the narrow margin of the final score. Vitoria produced seven blocked shots and had four shots off goal, but struggled to test the goalkeeper consistently. Atletico-MG also had the stronger expected-goals figure, 1.46 to 0.64, and forced six saves from Vitoria’s goalkeeper. Corners were even at four apiece, while Atletico-MG committed 12 fouls to Vitoria’s 11.

Cards and changes shape the second half

Vitoria’s D. Tarzia was booked in the 35th minute, while A. Preciado received Atletico-MG’s first yellow card in the 44th minute. M. Cisse was also cautioned for the home side in the 59th minute. Vitoria made an early change at half-time, bringing on Matheusinho for E. Britez, and later introduced Erick, Matheuzinho and Rene in the 69th minute. Atletico-MG replaced Borbas with Gustavo Scarpa in the 60th minute and brought on Dudu for A. Minda in the 75th.

Reinier leads the ratings

Reinier was the standout performer, receiving a match rating of 8.6 after completing 90 minutes. He contributed one goal and one assist, along with two key passes and one shot on target. Erick was Vitoria’s highest-rated player at 7.9 despite playing only 22 minutes, thanks to his goal.

Atletico-MG are listed ninth with 33 points from 23 games, while Vitoria are 12th with 29 points from 24 matches. Atletico-MG added a win to their recent form, which had most recently been a draw, while Vitoria followed a loss with another defeat.
