Platense turn 13 shots and 53% possession into a 2-1 comeback

Platense came from behind to beat Barracas Central 2-1 at Estadio Claudio Chiqui Tapia, overturning a half-time deficit in the Liga Profesional Argentina Clausura. Barracas Central led through Iván Tapia’s 23rd-minute penalty, but K. Retamar equalised in the 59th minute before L. Gimenez completed Platense’s comeback in the 90th.

Platense recover after early setback

Barracas Central made the brighter start on the scoresheet when Tapia converted from the spot to put the hosts ahead. The midfielder was also among the match’s most influential players, finishing with two shots on target and seven tackles before being replaced by E. Pereyra in the 79th minute.

Platense responded after the interval. F. Zapiola supplied the assist for Retamar’s equaliser in the 59th minute, bringing the visitors level after Barracas had held their advantage through half-time. The decisive moment came in the final minute of normal time, when B. Merlini set up Gimenez for Platense’s winning goal. Gimenez had entered for L. Heredia in the 69th minute, while Merlini replaced Zapiola in the 76th.

Visitors held the statistical edge

The result reflected a contest in which Platense had slightly more control. Martin Palermo’s side enjoyed 53% possession and completed 265 of 342 passes, compared with Barracas Central’s 47% possession and 221 accurate passes from 299. Platense also attempted more shots, 13 to 11, and recorded 10 efforts from inside the box.

However, the scoreline did not entirely follow the on-target numbers. Barracas Central registered six shots on goal to Platense’s four, while Nicolás Sumavil made five saves for the visitors. Platense’s expected-goals figure was higher at 1.70 to Barracas Central’s 1.57, supporting the eventual result despite the hosts’ advantage in shots on target. Marcelo Agustín Miño made three saves for Barracas.

Barracas Central collected four yellow cards, with N. Briasco, N. Demartini, K. Jappert and Tapia booked. Platense had one caution, shown to M. Mendia in the 17th minute. Barracas also made an early change at that time, with F. Tobio replacing N. Capraro, before G. Maroni came on for Briasco at half-time.

Barracas Central entered the round sixth in Clausura Group B with nine points from five matches. This defeat leaves the team on nine points after six games. Platense began 14th in Group A with five points from five and moves to eight points after claiming its second Clausura win. The victory also ends the matchday with Platense above its starting points total, while Barracas’ recent sequence now includes a defeat after its latest win.

Sumavil leads the ratings

Platense goalkeeper Nicolás Sumavil was the standout performer, earning a 7.9 rating after making five saves in 81 minutes. Tapia was Barracas Central’s highest-rated player at 7.7, but Retamar and Gimenez’s goals ultimately gave Platense all three points.
