Parma 2-1 Genoa: Almqvist restores the lead after Genoa’s equaliser

Parma defeated Genoa 2-1 at Stadio Ennio Tardini on Sunday, securing their first Serie A win of the season after leading 1-0 at half-time. The result ended Parma’s run of three defeats and a draw, while Genoa suffered a fourth loss in five league matches.

Parma take the lead

The opening goal arrived in the 38th minute. D. Romero finished a move assisted by E. B. Toure to put Parma ahead. Genoa’s S. Otoa was booked in the 14th minute, while A. Marcandalli received a yellow card six minutes before the interval. Parma also had D. Drobnic cautioned early in the match.

The home side made two changes shortly after the restart, replacing Romero and Toure with N. Elphege and P. Almqvist in the 56th minute. Genoa responded with substitutions of their own, including S. El Shaarawy for K. Ehizibue and D. Puczka for Otoa in the 60th minute.

Genoa level, but Almqvist decides it

Genoa’s pressure produced an equaliser in the 70th minute. M. Osmajic scored from L. Colombo’s assist, making it 1-1. Colombo had entered the match for T. Baldanzi one minute earlier. Parma regained the lead 10 minutes later, when Almqvist converted a chance created by N. Elphege.

Almqvist’s goal proved decisive despite Genoa producing more of the attacking numbers. Parma recorded five total shots to Genoa’s 12, and Genoa also led shots on target 5-2. The visitors held 58% possession, completed 439 passes at an 85% accuracy rate and won five corners, compared with Parma’s two. Parma were more efficient with their limited opportunities, scoring twice from their five attempts.

Goalkeeper and discipline shape the finish

Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi was one of the key contributors, making four saves and receiving a 7.3 match rating. The match’s highest-rated player was Genoa’s Junior Messias, who posted a 7.6 rating, three shots on target and six tackles, although his performance did not prevent defeat.

The closing stages brought further bookings for Parma’s E. Delprato and M. Troilo, and Genoa’s M. E. Ellertsson. Parma, who were listed 18th with one point before kick-off, move to four points from five matches with the victory. Genoa, listed 19th beforehand, remain on one point after five games.
