Paintsil’s Late Goal Lifts Galaxy Over Earthquakes

Los Angeles Galaxy secured a 1-0 victory over San Jose Earthquakes at Dignity Health Sports Park, with Joseph Paintsil scoring the decisive goal in the 79th minute. The result was shaped by San Jose’s territorial control, but the Galaxy proved more effective in front of goal and held on after playing the closing stages with 10 men.

Paintsil Decides the Match

The match remained goalless until Paintsil broke the deadlock with 11 minutes of normal time remaining. Harbor Miller supplied the assist, giving Los Angeles a late lead despite San Jose having controlled much of the possession and attacking territory.

Los Angeles’ task became more difficult just before halftime when L. Sanabria was sent off. Sanabria had already been booked in the 37th minute and received a second yellow card in the 45th, leaving the Galaxy to defend with 10 players for the remainder of the match.

The dismissal added significance to Paintsil’s goal and the Galaxy’s defensive response. H. Miller and J. Haak were also booked for Los Angeles, while N. Fernandez, D. Romney and J. Jasinski received yellow cards for San Jose. Despite committing fewer fouls than the visitors, Los Angeles had to withstand sustained pressure after taking the lead.
