Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth: Ramsey rescues a point

Newcastle and Bournemouth drew 2-2 at St. James’ Park in the Premier League, with Jacob Ramsey’s 88th-minute goal completing Newcastle’s recovery. Bournemouth led 2-1 at half-time after an early Marcus Tavernier strike and a Malick Thiaw own goal, but Harvey Barnes and Ramsey earned Newcastle a share of the points.

Bournemouth take control before the break

Bournemouth made the faster start when Tavernier opened the scoring in the ninth minute. The forward was the visitors’ most productive attacker, finishing with four shots on target, a key pass and a match rating of 8.2.

Newcastle’s response was disrupted when Thiaw put through his own goal in the 35th minute, giving Bournemouth a two-goal advantage. Newcastle reduced the deficit just two minutes later, as Barnes converted after an assist from Lewis Hall. That goal left Bournemouth ahead 2-1 at the interval.

Late Newcastle equaliser

Newcastle changed personnel during the second half, with Matias Fernandez-Pardo replacing Joe Willock and Ramsey coming on for Lewis Miley in the 63rd minute. The changes eventually proved decisive. Ramsey scored in the 88th minute, producing Newcastle’s second normal goal of the match and bringing the hosts level.

Ramsey was Newcastle’s highest-rated player, receiving a 7.5 rating after 27 minutes on the pitch and recording one shot on target. Barnes also stood out with a 7.3 rating, a goal and one shot on target across his full match.

Possession favours Newcastle, shots favour Bournemouth

The statistics showed an unusual balance. Newcastle had more of the ball, holding 57% possession, and completed 361 accurate passes from 443 total. Bournemouth completed 251 accurate passes from 328. However, the visitors created more attempts, registering 17 shots to Newcastle’s eight, including nine shots inside the box compared with five for the hosts.

Bournemouth also led shots on goal 5-2, while Newcastle goalkeeper saves totalled four and Bournemouth recorded none. Newcastle’s greater possession therefore did not translate into more attempts, while the final score reflected the hosts’ late efficiency rather than their volume of chances.

Discipline and league position

The match included six listed yellow-card incidents and no red cards. Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa were booked for Newcastle, while Justin Kluivert, Adrien Truffert and Adam Smith received Bournemouth cautions; Newcastle coach Matthias Jaissle was also shown a yellow card.

The draw leaves Newcastle seventh with four points from two matches, maintaining an unbeaten start of one win and one draw. Bournemouth move to 14th with one point from two games after a loss and a draw. The result gave Newcastle a comeback point, while Bournemouth’s stronger shooting numbers were not enough to secure their first league win.
