FC Cincinnati
Nashville SC defeated FC Cincinnati 4-0 at Geodis Park on Sunday, August 30, earning a decisive Major League Soccer victory in Regular Season Round 22. The Eastern Conference leaders led 1-0 at half-time and added three second-half goals to extend their advantage at the top of the table.
Surridge breaks the deadlock
The opening half was closely contested, but Nashville found the breakthrough in the 43rd minute. Cristian Espinoza supplied the assist for S. Surridge, who scored a normal goal to give the home side the lead. FC Cincinnati’s O. Nwobodo was booked a minute later, while Nashville’s Andy Najar received a yellow card in the 49th minute as the match became more disciplinary after the interval.
Cincinnati made two changes at half-time, bringing on K. Mboma and B. J. Ramirez Leon for A. Jabbari and Nwobodo. The changes did not prevent Nashville from doubling its advantage. Hany Mukhtar scored in the 53rd minute after receiving the final pass from E. Saad, putting Nashville in control.
Nashville finishes strongly
Nashville managed the second half effectively before adding two late goals. B. Acosta made it 3-0 in the 89th minute, with Mukhtar providing the assist. A. Qasem then completed the scoring in the 90th minute after a pass from R. Baker-Whiting. Cincinnati’s B. J. Ramirez Leon was booked during the same minute.
Nashville also made changes during the second half, including M. Corcoran for P. Yazbek and S. Mohammed for Espinoza. J. Palacios and E. Tagseth were booked for the hosts in the 70th and 79th minutes respectively. The final card count was three for Nashville and two for Cincinnati.
Statistics tell a more even story
The scoreline suggested a one-sided contest, but several figures showed a more balanced match. Nashville had 52% possession, completed 345 of 390 passes and registered 18 total shots, compared with Cincinnati’s 13. However, Cincinnati had more shots on goal, eight to Nashville’s seven, and forced six saves from Brian Schwake. Nashville’s defensive work and finishing separated the teams, with the hosts also recording seven blocked shots to Cincinnati’s one.
Table impact and standout performer
The victory lifts Nashville to 52 points from 22 games and strengthens its position at number one in the Eastern Conference. Cincinnati remains sixth with 31 points from 22 matches. Nashville’s standout performer was Mukhtar, who received an 8.7 rating after playing 95 minutes, scoring once, assisting once and producing three key passes. The result also extended Nashville’s strong recent run, while Cincinnati’s defeat followed a run containing three losses in its previous five listed matches.
