Augsburg and Leverkusen share four-goal draw

FC Augsburg and Bayer Leverkusen drew 2-2 at WWK Arena on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Leverkusen led at half-time, but Augsburg turned the match around after the interval before Patrik Schick’s late equaliser secured a point for the visitors.

Leverkusen lead before Augsburg respond

Bayer Leverkusen opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Christian Kofane finished a move assisted by Edmond Tapsoba, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage that they carried into the break.

Augsburg changed the momentum quickly after half-time. Michael Gregoritsch equalised in the 50th minute with Hennes Behrens providing the assist. Five minutes later, Gregoritsch struck again, this time converting a chance created by Fabian Rieder to put Augsburg 2-1 ahead.

Leverkusen responded from the bench, replacing Kofane with Schick in the 63rd minute. The substitute made the decisive contribution late in the match, scoring in the 89th minute after Malik Tillman supplied the assist. The goal completed the 2-2 comeback and prevented Augsburg from taking all three points.

Leverkusen control the ball but not the scoreline

The statistics showed a clear difference in possession and passing. Leverkusen had 63% of the ball and completed 518 accurate passes from 587 attempts, while Augsburg recorded 275 accurate passes from 347. Leverkusen also produced 30 total shots to Augsburg’s eight and won 14 corners compared with two.

Those numbers did not translate into a winning result. Both teams registered five shots on goal, and Augsburg converted two of its five efforts from inside the box. Leverkusen’s 19 shots inside the area and 12 blocked efforts reflected sustained attacking pressure, but the visitors needed Schick’s late finish to earn a draw.

Discipline and standout performances

Noahkai Banks received a yellow card for Augsburg in the 38th minute, while coach M. Baum was booked in the 60th. Leverkusen’s Guéla Doué was cautioned in the 72nd minute. Neither side received a red card.

Gregoritsch was the standout performer, earning a 9.2 rating after scoring twice in 85 minutes. He also recorded three shots on target and two key passes. Schick made an immediate impact in 27 minutes, scoring once and posting a rating of 8.2.

A point changes both teams’ records

Augsburg entered the round ranked first with six points from two matches after consecutive wins. The draw extended that unbeaten start while ending the perfect run. Leverkusen, listed eighth with three points from two games, added a point after a loss and a win in their previous two matches. The result leaves the teams separated by the same contrasting starts: Augsburg remain unbeaten, while Leverkusen move to one win, one draw and one loss.
