Miami’s 20 shots produce only a 1-1 draw at Chicago Fire

Chicago Fire and Inter Miami shared the points after a 1-1 draw in Major League Soccer’s Regular Season - 24 on Thursday, September 10. Chicago led 1-0 at half-time, but Miami equalised shortly after the restart to complete the scoring at Soldier Field.

Lewandowski gives Chicago the lead

The opening goal arrived in the 10th minute. Robert Lewandowski finished a move assisted by Andrew Gutman, giving Chicago an early advantage. The Fire protected that lead through the remainder of the first half, despite Miami’s 56% possession and greater passing volume.

Inter Miami found their response three minutes after the interval. Carlos Henrique Casimiro scored in the 48th minute, with Lionel Messi providing the assist. The goal shifted the match back to level terms and ensured Chicago could not turn its half-time advantage into a home win.

Miami created more, but neither side pulled ahead

The statistics showed Miami having more of the ball and producing the greater attacking volume. Inter Miami recorded 20 total shots to Chicago’s 10, including seven shots on goal compared with three for the Fire. Miami also had 10 shots inside the box, five corner kicks and 446 accurate passes from 515 total passes. Chicago completed 347 accurate passes from 404 and held two corners.

Those figures did not translate into a winning scoreline. Chicago’s goalkeeper C. Brady made six saves, while Inter Miami’s goalkeeper made two, helping the Fire retain a share of the points despite being outshot. Miami also recorded nine blocked shots to Chicago’s four, underlining the amount of attacking pressure it applied after falling behind.

Cards and changes shape the second half

The match produced five yellow cards and no red cards. Telasco Segovia was booked in the fourth minute and Maximiliano Falcon in the 24th for Miami, while Jonathan Dean and Djé D’Avilla were cautioned for Chicago after the break. Germán Berterame received Miami’s final booking in the 71st minute.

Chicago made four substitutions, including two in the 67th minute and one in the 90th, while Miami made two changes in the 78th. Brady was the standout performer by rating, sharing an 8.0 score with Lewandowski; his six saves were particularly important in securing the draw. Lewandowski also finished with a goal, one shot on target and two tackles.

League positions remain unchanged

The result leaves Chicago Fire fourth in the Eastern Conference with 38 points from 22 games, while Inter Miami remain second with 43 points from 23 matches. Chicago’s listed recent sequence began with a loss, win and draw, and Miami’s with a loss followed by two wins, making the shared points a significant addition to both teams’ current records without changing their listed positions.
