Mariano Diaz Leads Alaves to 3-0 Opening-Day Victory

Alaves opened their La Liga campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over Getafe at Estadio de Mendizorroza on Saturday. A goalless first half gave way to a decisive second-half performance, with Nahuel Tenaglia, Mariano Diaz and Mikel Rodriguez completing a convincing home win.

Alaves Take Control After the Interval

The match was relatively even in possession, with Alaves holding 52% and Getafe 48%, but the hosts carried the greater attacking threat throughout. Alaves recorded 18 shots, including eight on target, while Getafe managed only six attempts and tested the home goalkeeper just twice.

The difference in chance quality was also clear in the expected-goals figures, which favored Alaves 1.83 to 0.24. The home side produced 11 shots from inside the box, compared with three for Getafe, and also edged the corner count 5-3.

Tenaglia Breaks the Deadlock

Alaves finally broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute through Nahuel Tenaglia, who finished from an assist by Mariano Diaz. The goal rewarded the hosts’ sustained pressure and gave them a lead that reflected their superior attacking output after the interval.

Getafe could not recover once Alaves moved in front. Diaz scored in the 90th minute, then turned provider again moments later by assisting Mikel Rodriguez for the third goal, transforming a tight scoreless contest into a clear victory for the hosts.

Femenia Red Card Changes the Match

The most important disciplinary incident came in the 42nd minute when Kiko Femenia was shown a red card for Getafe. The dismissal forced the visitors to play the second half with ten men and became a major turning point in the match.

Getafe collected three yellow cards in addition to Femenia’s sending-off, with Davinchi, M. Martin and Djene cautioned. Alaves received four yellow cards, awarded to D. Suarez, A. Rebbach, A. Blanco and Diaz, but avoided a red card as they controlled the closing stages.

Diaz Shines as Alaves Secure Three Points

Mariano Diaz was the standout performer, earning a 9.3 rating after scoring one goal and providing two assists. He also recorded two shots on target and two key passes, directly influencing all three Alaves goals.

Tenaglia followed with an 8.7 rating after scoring the opener, while Mikel Rodriguez added the final goal and contributed three tackles. David Soria was Getafe’s highest-rated player at 7.0 after making four saves, underlining how much pressure Alaves created.
