Liverpool 2-2 Nottingham Forest: Isak and Muñoz complete the comeback

Liverpool recover twice to draw 2-2

Liverpool and Nottingham Forest shared a 2-2 draw at Anfield after a match that changed direction several times. Forest led 1-0 at half-time, Liverpool levelled after the interval, and both sides scored once more before the final whistle. The result leaves Liverpool listed 10th in the Premier League standings with one point from one game, while Nottingham Forest are listed 15th with zero points from one game. Liverpool’s recent form remains a draw, while Forest’s listed pre-match form was a loss.

Ndoye gives Forest the lead

Nottingham Forest made the stronger start on the scoreboard when Dan Ndoye opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Morgan Gibbs-White supplied the assist, giving Forest a 1-0 advantage that they carried into half-time. Ndoye was replaced by Liam Delap in the 66th minute after completing a productive outing that included one goal, one shot on target and two key passes.

The first disciplinary incidents arrived late in the opening half. Igor Jesus was booked in the 44th minute, while Ola Aina received a yellow card five minutes after the restart. Liverpool also collected four bookings in total, with Víctor Muñoz, Florian Wirtz, Alisson Becker and Ronald Araujo all cautioned. Neither team received a red card.

Liverpool turn pressure into goals

Liverpool’s response came in the 60th minute. Alexander Isak finished from Cody Gakpo’s assist to make it 1-1, his performance earning the highest rating of the match at 8.0. Isak played 90 minutes, scored once, recorded one shot on target and made one key pass.

Forest regained the advantage only 10 minutes later when Gibbs-White converted a penalty. Liverpool continued to press, and their substitutions followed soon afterwards, with Rio Ngumoha, Konstantinos Tsimikas and Ryan Gravenberch entering in the 71st minute. Ronald Araujo and Treymaurice Nyoni were introduced six minutes later.

The changes helped precede another equaliser in the 82nd minute. Víctor Muñoz scored from Florian Wirtz’s assist to complete the 2-2 comeback. Muñoz also finished with a 7.3 rating, one shot on target and one key pass.

Possession favours Liverpool, but Forest threaten

Liverpool controlled 69% of possession and completed 554 accurate passes from 625 total, compared with Forest’s 193 accurate passes from 281. However, that territorial advantage did not translate into a win. Liverpool had 13 shots to Forest’s 12, while Forest led 11-8 in shots inside the box. Liverpool registered four shots on goal to Forest’s three, and both goalkeepers made important contributions, with Forest’s goalkeeper making two saves and Alisson one.

The five corner kicks to three also favoured Forest, who had 13 free kicks compared with Liverpool’s 10. Gibbs-White stood out for Forest with a goal, an assist, one shot on target and two tackles, but Liverpool’s late equaliser ensured the points were shared.
