Genoa Rescue 1-1 Draw After Frosinone Fire 26 Shots

Genoa drew 1-1 with Frosinone at Luigi Ferraris on Saturday, recovering from an early deficit to claim a point in Serie A Round 4. Frosinone led at half-time through Giorgi Kvernadze, but Johan Vásquez equalised five minutes after the interval. The result ended Genoa’s three-match losing start, while Frosinone missed the chance to add a third win of the season.

Kvernadze strikes before the break

Frosinone made the quicker impact in Genova. Kvernadze opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing a move assisted by R. Schmid. The goal gave Massimiliano Alvini’s side a 1-0 lead and reflected its greater control of the opening period.

Genoa had a major opportunity to respond just before half-time, but L. Colombo missed a penalty in the 45th minute. That miss appeared to leave Daniele De Rossi’s team facing a difficult second half, but Genoa found an equaliser soon after the restart. D. Sow provided the assist for Vásquez, who scored in the 50th minute to make it 1-1.

Genoa’s equaliser changes the game

The second-half goal shifted the match into a more even contest. Genoa made two changes at half-time, bringing on T. Baldanzi and Junior Messias, while Frosinone replaced G. Cittadini with I. Monterisi. Further substitutions followed as both coaches sought to influence the final stages.

The clearest late disciplinary incident involved Vásquez. He was booked in the 67th minute, received another yellow card in the 87th, and was sent off. Genoa therefore finished with 10 men. Earlier bookings went to G. Cittadini, K. Ehizibue and G. Bracaglia. Despite the dismissal, Frosinone could not find a second goal.

Frosinone had the volume, but not the winner

The statistics suggest that Frosinone carried more of the attacking workload without turning that advantage into victory. It had 55% possession, 346 total passes and 26 shots, compared with Genoa’s 45%, 274 passes and 17 attempts. Frosinone also led corners 9-8 and blocked 13 shots to Genoa’s six.

The scoreline was closer to the quality of the chances than the shot count suggests. Both teams registered five shots on target, and the expected-goals figures were almost identical: 1.85 for Frosinone and 1.86 for Genoa. Frosinone’s greater possession and shot total therefore did not produce a winning margin.

Kvernadze stands out in a level result

Kvernadze was the match’s highest-rated performer, earning 8.0 after 87 minutes. His goal, two shots on target and six key passes made him Frosinone’s most influential attacking player. Vásquez also impressed for Genoa with a 7.5 rating, a goal and three tackles, although his late red card was the final notable event of his evening.

Frosinone entered the round seventh with six points from three matches, while Genoa were 19th without a point. This draw gives both teams one additional point: Genoa move to one point from four games, and Frosinone to seven. Their records become 0W-1D-3L and 2W-1D-1L respectively.
