Elversberg overturns 3-1 deficit to beat Gladbach 4-3

SV Elversberg defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-3 at Borussia-Park on Saturday, completing a remarkable comeback after trailing 3-1. Gladbach led 2-1 at half-time and extended that advantage early in the second half, but Elversberg scored three times in the final 24 minutes to claim all three points in Bundesliga regular-season round two.

Bolin gives Gladbach the advantage

Borussia Mönchengladbach started quickly, with Hugo Bolin opening the scoring in the 11th minute. Elversberg responded through David Mokwa in the 29th minute, with Lukas Pinckert providing the assist, but Gladbach restored their lead just before the interval. Bolin struck again in the 44th minute after Franck Honorat created the chance, sending the hosts into half-time ahead.

The home side appeared to take control when Joe Scally made it 3-1 in the 56th minute, again with Honorat involved as the provider. Bolin was the standout performer by match rating, earning a 9.0 after scoring twice, registering two shots on target and making three key passes. Elversberg overturns the deficit

Elversberg’s response began in the 66th minute, when Maurice Krattenmacher pulled a goal back. He had entered for Cole Campbell two minutes earlier and later completed the turnaround, scoring his second goal in the 90th minute after an assist from Noel Futkeu.

Between Krattenmacher’s goals, Felix Keidel equalised in the 80th minute to make it 3-3. Elversberg then held firm through the closing stages before Krattenmacher’s late finish completed a three-goal recovery. Substitutions also shaped the final phase, with Futkeu and Nicholas Mickelson introduced in the 75th minute, while Gladbach brought on Isac Lidberg in the 77th.

Statistics favour Gladbach in volume, not efficiency

The numbers underline how narrowly the result escaped the hosts. Gladbach had 52% possession, completed 295 accurate passes to Elversberg’s 288 and attempted 23 shots compared with 14. They also won 12 corners to four and recorded 17 shots inside the box.

However, Elversberg produced the sharper finishing figures: 10 shots on goal to Gladbach’s six, while the visitors’ goalkeeper made only two saves compared with six for the home goalkeeper. Gladbach also had 11 blocked shots and five offsides, whereas Elversberg were not caught offside. The match included bookings for Vincent Wagner and Bolin at 45 minutes, followed by yellow cards for Mathieu Nguefack, Kevin Diks and Amara Condé late on. No red cards were shown.
