Eduardo and Mauricio share the goals as Mirassol hold Palmeiras to a 1-1 draw

Mirassol and Palmeiras drew 1-1 at Estádio José Maria de Campos Maia on Sunday, with the league leaders forced to settle for a point after Mauricio cancelled out Eduardo’s opener. The result leaves Palmeiras top of Serie A with 51 points from 24 matches, while Mirassol remain 18th on 24 points from 23 games.

Eduardo gives Mirassol the lead

The first half ended without a goal, but Mirassol moved ahead five minutes after the restart. Eduardo finished a move assisted by Igor Formiga in the 50th minute, giving the hosts the advantage and completing a strong individual contribution before his substitution in the 70th minute. Eduardo also recorded a shot on target and a key pass, earning a 7.9 rating.

Palmeiras responded after making changes in the 70th minute, bringing on Khellven for Felipe Anderson and Lucas Evangelista for Vitor Roque. The equaliser arrived in the 75th minute, when Mauricio scored from an assist by G. Gomez. Mauricio finished with one shot on target and one key pass, and his 7.3 rating reflected his role in restoring parity.

Palmeiras had more of the ball, but Mirassol tested the goalkeeper

The statistics showed Palmeiras holding a narrow advantage in possession at 53% to 47% and completing more passes, 463 compared with Mirassol’s 402. Palmeiras also produced more total shots, 13 to nine, including 10 from inside the box, while their expected-goals figure of 1.50 was double Mirassol’s 0.75.

However, the numbers did not translate into a victory. Mirassol put five attempts on target to Palmeiras’ three, while Carlos Miguel made four saves for the visitors. Walter was also important for the home side, making two saves and receiving the joint-highest match rating of 7.9. The contrast between Palmeiras’ higher shot volume and Mirassol’s greater number of efforts on target helped explain the 1-1 scoreline.

Late dismissal adds tension to the finish

Mirassol’s Denilson was booked in the 85th minute. Palmeiras’ Arthur Gabriel then received two yellow cards in the 90th minute and was sent off, leaving the visitors to complete the closing moments with 10 men. Mirassol also made late substitutions, with Carlos Eduardo and Fernandinho entering for Gustavo Silva and Alesson, but neither side found a winning goal.

The draw adds a point to both teams’ league campaigns. Palmeiras extend their points total at the top after a match in which they controlled more possession and generated the higher expected-goals figure, while Mirassol gained a result against the division leaders despite remaining in 18th place.
