Cruzeiro Complete 3-1 Home Win Over Mirassol

Cruzeiro defeated Mirassol 3-1 at Governador Magalhães Pinto on Sunday, securing a home victory in Round 22 of the Brazilian Serie A. After an even first half ended 1-1, Cruzeiro found another level after the break, with Kaio Jorge and Wesley scoring late to settle the contest.

Early Goals Produce Even First Half

Cruzeiro made the quicker start and took the lead in the 12th minute. Joao Marcelo finished a move assisted by Bruno Rodrigues, giving the hosts an early advantage and rewarding their positive opening approach.

Mirassol responded in the 27th minute when Reinaldo converted a penalty to restore parity. The equaliser ensured that the teams went into half-time level, with the score reflecting a competitive opening period rather than a one-sided match.

The first half also brought the opening disciplinary incident, as Cruzeiro’s Gerson was shown a yellow card in the 26th minute. The match remained controlled overall, but both sides had to manage their challenges carefully as the contest developed.

Kaio Jorge Restores Cruzeiro’s Lead

Cruzeiro regained the lead in the 76th minute through Kaio Jorge. Fagner supplied the assist, and the goal gave the home side the decisive advantage after Mirassol had kept the score level for much of the second half.

Kaio Jorge’s finish changed the shape of the game, leaving Mirassol with less than 15 minutes to find another equaliser. Cruzeiro’s ability to turn a balanced match in their favour late on was central to their success and reflected a more effective second-half performance.

Wesley Seals Decisive Home Victory

Cruzeiro completed the scoring in the 84th minute when Wesley found the net from L. Villalba’s assist. The goal gave the hosts a two-goal cushion and effectively ended Mirassol’s hopes of taking anything from the match.

Wesley made an important contribution at both ends of the decisive closing phase, scoring the third goal before being booked in the 85th minute. Mirassol’s Shaylon was also cautioned in the 90th minute as Cruzeiro protected their advantage through the final stages.

The three Cruzeiro goals came from Joao Marcelo, Kaio Jorge and Wesley, with Bruno Rodrigues, Fagner and L. Villalba each providing an assist. That spread of decisive contributions underlined the hosts’ effectiveness once they gained control of the match.

Win Lifts Cruzeiro Above Mirassol

The victory moved Cruzeiro to ninth in Serie A with 30 points from 21 games. Their record now stands at eight wins, six draws and seven defeats, with a goal difference of minus three.

Mirassol remained 15th with 23 points from 20 matches after recording their ninth defeat of the campaign. Their overall record is six wins, five draws and nine losses, with a minus-four goal difference.

The result therefore strengthened Cruzeiro’s position in the middle section of the table while leaving Mirassol lower down. A level first half was ultimately followed by a decisive Cruzeiro finish, as the home side scored twice in the final 15 minutes to win 3-1.
