Coritiba’s 2-1 Win Over Corinthians Extends Their Table Advantage

Coritiba defeated Corinthians 2-1 at Estádio Major Antônio Couto Pereira on Sunday, with the home side leading 1-0 at half-time. The Serie A result lifted Coritiba to eighth place with 34 points from 24 matches, while Corinthians remained 10th on 32 points.

Coritiba make their chances count

Corinthians had more of the ball and produced the larger volume of attempts, but Coritiba were more effective in the decisive moments. The visitors held 64% possession, completed 493 passes at 90% accuracy and recorded 16 total shots, compared with Coritiba’s 12. However, both teams managed only three shots on goal, and Coritiba converted two of theirs.

The opening goal arrived in the 40th minute. Pedro Rocha finished a move assisted by João Pedro Chermont to give Coritiba the lead before the interval. Second-half changes fail to overturn result

Fernando Diniz made two changes at half-time, bringing M. Pereira on for P. Milans and M. Depay on for Pedro Raul. Coritiba responded with their own substitutions in the 62nd minute, replacing Pedro Rocha with Paulo Roberto and Thiago Santos with Tissi. Those changes proved significant, as Paulo Roberto later became the second Coritiba scorer.

In the 75th minute, Paulo Roberto doubled the advantage, again with João Pedro Chermont providing the assist. Corinthians continued to press and finished with 14 corners, compared with four for Coritiba, but their pressure produced only one goal. Raniele pulled a goal back in the 90th minute after receiving the final pass from Allan, leaving Corinthians with limited time to seek an equaliser.

Discipline and standout performances

The match produced four yellow cards. Thiago Santos and Breno Bidon were booked in the 42nd minute, while Tissi and M. Pereira received cautions in the 67th. The game otherwise remained relatively controlled, with Coritiba committing eight fouls and Corinthians nine.

Sebastian Gomez was the highest-rated player, receiving 7.7. He contributed three key passes and five tackles in 98 minutes. Pedro Rocha also earned a 7.7 rating after scoring and registering a shot on target, while João Pedro Chermont stood out with two assists and two key passes.

The victory ended Coritiba’s match with three points and strengthened their position above Corinthians in the table. For Corinthians, the defeat followed their most recent pre-match loss and left them two points behind their opponents after 24 games.
