Coritiba edge Remo 3-2 despite being outplayed on the numbers

Coritiba defeated Remo 3-2 at Mangueirão in Belem on Monday, August 31, securing the points in a Serie A Round 25 match that finished at 23:00 UTC. The result lifted Coritiba to seventh with 37 points from 25 matches, while Remo remained 19th on 23 points.

The match turned quickly after half-time. Ze Welison’s 47th-minute own goal gave Coritiba the lead, but Remo responded strongly. Zé Ricardo equalised in the 61st minute, finishing a move assisted by Duplexe Tchamba. Three minutes later, Yago Pikachu missed a penalty before scoring in the same minute to put Remo ahead. The sequence appeared to give the home side control, but Coritiba recovered.

Fabinho restored parity in the 76th minute after receiving from Paulo Roberto. Coritiba then completed the comeback in the 90th minute, when Pedro Rocha scored with an assist from S. Gomez. Remo controlled possession but Coritiba finished the chances

Coritiba, however, converted its decisive opportunities, scoring twice after Remo had moved in front. Pedro Morisco was important to that outcome, making five saves for Coritiba.

Cards and substitutions shape the closing stages

Tiago Coser received Coritiba’s only yellow card in the 56th minute. Remo were booked three times: Gabriel Taliari in the 66th minute, Ze Welison in the 78th and Marllon in the 90th.
