Dortmund edge Stuttgart 1-0 through Beier’s finish

Borussia Dortmund defeated VfB Stuttgart 1-0 at the MHP Arena on Saturday, with Maximilian Beier scoring the only goal in the 70th minute. The result extended Dortmund’s winning start after three victories in their previous three matches, while Stuttgart suffered another defeat after entering the game with one win and two losses.

Beier decides a closely contested game

The decisive moment arrived after a series of second-half changes. Dortmund replaced Joey Veerman with Jobe Bellingham and Ethan Nwaneri with Konstantinos Karetsas in the 62nd minute. Stuttgart then introduced Jamie Leweling and Dženan Pejčinović for Chris Führich and Deniz Undav two minutes later. At 70 minutes, Bellingham supplied the assist for Beier, who scored a normal goal to put Dortmund ahead.

Beier left the field for Marcel Sabitzer at 82 minutes, having produced the match-winning contribution. Dortmund also brought on Fábio Silva for Serhou Guirassy at 74 minutes. Stuttgart could not find an equaliser before full time.

Stuttgart had more of the ball but not the result

The statistics show why the scoreline did not fully reflect Stuttgart’s share of the game. The hosts held 56% possession and completed 472 accurate passes, compared with Dortmund’s 44% and 334 accurate passes. Stuttgart also registered five shots on target, while Dortmund had two. However, Dortmund finished with 13 total shots to Stuttgart’s 12 and blocked five attempts.

Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel made five saves, helping preserve the narrow lead. Stuttgart won the corner count 6-2 and recorded 542 total passes to Dortmund’s 431, but that control did not produce a goal. The visitors’ more limited attacking output was enough because Beier converted the key opening.

Cards shape a disciplined but physical finish

Stuttgart received two early yellow cards, for Ermedin Demirović in the 13th minute and Angelo Stiller four minutes later. Dortmund collected five bookings in total. Nico Schlotterbeck was cautioned in the 32nd minute, followed by Joey Veerman at 46 minutes and Kouakou Joane Gadou at 57. Bellingham and Julian Ryerson were booked in the 81st and 82nd minutes. There were no red cards.

Table positions underline Dortmund’s strong start

Stuttgart were 14th with three points from three matches and a goal difference of minus two.
