How the match unfolded, with the data behind it

Austin

Colorado Rapids
A point apiece after Aaronson opener and Torres equaliser
Austin and Colorado Rapids drew 1-1 at Q2 Stadium in Major League Soccer’s Regular Season Round 24. Colorado led at half-time after Paxten Aaronson’s 22nd-minute goal, but Austin recovered after the interval and levelled through Facundo Daniel Torres Perez in the 79th minute. The result was a draw, with both teams taking a point from a match that featured contrasting periods of control.
Colorado strike first, Austin respond late
Colorado made the breakthrough in the 22nd minute when Aaronson scored a normal goal. His finish gave the visitors a 1-0 advantage and kept Austin from converting their early share of possession into a goal before the interval. Youssef Maziz was replaced by Joshua Atencio five minutes later, while Atencio was booked in first-half stoppage time.
Austin changed the shape of the second half with Ilie Sánchez making way for Jorge Alastuey at half-time. Brandon Vazquez and Jon Gallagher were then replaced by Christian Ramirez and Žan Kolmanič in the 58th minute. Kolmanič had an immediate influence, supplying the assist for Torres’ equaliser in the 79th minute. Austin continued to adjust late, with Przemyslaw Płacheta replacing Besard Sabovic in the 82nd minute.
Possession favours Austin, but Colorado test the goalkeeper
Austin had 58% possession and completed 423 accurate passes, the same number as Colorado, from 479 total passes compared with 477 for the visitors. The hosts also won more corners, 8-4, and recorded eight shots inside the box to Colorado’s five. However, the overall shot count was level at 11, while Colorado produced five shots on goal to Austin’s two. That sharper accuracy helped the Rapids maintain their lead for much of the match, and Austin goalkeeper saves were recorded at four compared with one for Colorado.
Austin also took 16 free kicks to Colorado’s eight, but their seven offsides indicated some of the difficulty they faced in turning pressure into clear chances. Colorado committed 18 fouls and received two yellow cards, with Reggie Cannon booked in the 62nd minute. Austin had no cards, and neither team received a red card.
Aaronson leads the ratings as teams share the points
Aaronson was the standout performer, earning an 8.2 rating after playing all 90 minutes. He scored Colorado’s goal, registered two shots on target, created one key pass and made three tackles. Torres also completed the match with a goal and a 7.9 rating, while Kolmanič received a 7.5 rating for his assist and three key passes in 32 minutes.
The draw leaves Austin 14th in the Western Conference with 25 points from 24 games, after entering the match with a mixed sequence that included a recent win and draw. Colorado sit seventh with 32 points from 24 games. Their point ends a run that began with a loss in the most recent listed form, while the Rapids’ goal difference remains level at zero and Austin’s stands at -13.
