Angers take control before the break

Angers defeated Estac Troyes 2-0 at Stade Raymond Kopa in Ligue 1’s fifth regular-season round. The hosts led 1-0 at half-time and secured their second goal early in the second period, producing a result that ended a run of mixed form.

The opening goal arrived in the 42nd minute. Amine Sbaï supplied the assist for Prosper Peter, who finished to put Angers ahead shortly before the interval. Troyes had a chance to respond after the break, but Angers extended their advantage in the 57th minute. This time, Sbaï converted after receiving the assist from Amine El Ouazzani.

Troyes created chances but lacked a finish

The scoreline suggested a controlled Angers performance, and their 61% possession and 424 accurate passes supported that impression. They also completed 491 passes overall, compared with 305 for Troyes. However, the visitors were more active in front of goal, attempting 19 shots to Angers’ 12 and taking 13 corners to the hosts’ two.

Troyes recorded 13 shots inside the box and six from outside it, while Angers registered eight and four respectively. Both sides managed three shots on goal, but the goalkeepers’ workloads differed: Angers made three saves and Troyes made one. The statistics therefore showed a clear contrast between Angers’ control of possession and Troyes’ greater volume of attempts, without the visitors finding a way through.

Iron Gomis received Troyes’ first yellow card in the 35th minute, before Peter’s opener. Angers’ Jim Allevinah was booked in the 63rd minute, and Yassine Belkdim followed in the 86th. Antoine Mille was cautioned for Troyes in the 89th minute, while Ousmane Camara saw yellow in stoppage time. Neither team received a red card.

Troyes made three substitutions in the 67th minute, introducing Lucas Maronnier, Hugo Picard and Renaud Ripart. Angers replaced Peter and Allevinah two minutes later with Usman Simbakoli and Harouna Djibirin. Jérémy Le Douaron was replaced by Yacouba Koné in the 73rd minute.

Sbaï leads Angers to three points

Sbaï was the standout performer, earning a match rating of 9.0 after scoring once and assisting once. He also recorded three key passes and one shot on target in 85 minutes. Peter added a goal in 69 minutes, while Jérémy Lefort completed the match with a 7.7 rating.

Angers began the round 11th with four points from four matches and now have seven points after their win. Troyes started 12th on four points and remain on that total after their latest defeat. The result moved Angers’ form from loss, win, loss and draw into a winning sequence, while Troyes added another loss to a record that had begun draw, win, loss and loss.
