3-3 Draw: Whittaker’s Double Overturned by Seattle’s Late Comeback

Whittaker gives Colorado the lead

Colorado made the breakthrough in the 28th minute. Morgan Whittaker finished a move assisted by Paxten Aaronson, giving the Rapids the advantage and their only goal of the first half. The Rapids entered the interval ahead despite Seattle having slightly more possession overall, with the Sounders eventually recording 51% of the ball.

Seattle levelled four minutes after the restart when Dejan Joveljić converted A. Rusnak's assist in the 49th minute. Colorado responded quickly. D. Phillip restored the lead in the 56th minute, before receiving a yellow card in the 69th. The Rapids then appeared to take control when Whittaker scored again in the 76th minute, with Aaronson again providing the assist.

Seattle responds twice late

The two-goal margin lasted only three minutes. Joveljić scored his second of the match in the 79th minute, bringing Seattle back within one. The Sounders continued pressing for an equaliser and found it in stoppage time, when C. Clark scored in the 90th minute after another assist from Rusnak.

Seattle made four listed substitutions before the closing stages, including the introductions of S. Gomez, J. Ragen, S. Brunell and P. Arriola. Colorado brought on D. Yapi and J. Atencio. Those changes formed part of a second half in which Seattle turned a 3-1 deficit into a point.

Statistics show a close contest

The shot totals were relatively even, with Colorado registering 18 attempts to Seattle's 15. The Rapids had the stronger target count, 7-6, and produced 15 shots inside the box compared with Seattle's nine. Colorado also held the higher expected-goals figure, 1.70 to 0.78, yet could not convert that attacking advantage into victory. Seattle led the passing totals 420-395 and completed 85% of their passes to Colorado's 84%.

Whittaker stands out

Whittaker was the match's highest-rated performer, receiving 9.6 after playing all 94 minutes. His two goals and three shots on target drove Colorado's attacking output. Aaronson also made a major contribution with two assists and seven key passes, but Seattle's late recovery denied the Rapids a result that their shot and expected-goals numbers suggested they might have earned.
