3-1 comeback lifts Independ. Rivadavia to 11 Clausura points

Independ. Rivadavia defeated Racing Club 3-1 at Estadio Bautista Gargantini on Monday, overturning a 1-1 half-time score to secure all three points in Liga Profesional Argentina’s Clausura seventh round.

Arce misses, then Rios restores parity

The hosts had an early opportunity to take control when A. Arce was awarded a penalty in the ninth minute, but he missed from the spot. Racing responded in the 20th minute, with M. Miljevic opening the scoring after a pass from M. Zaracho. Independ. Rivadavia recovered before the interval, as G. Rios levelled in the 39th minute to send the teams into half-time at 1-1.

The first half also saw Racing’s M. Zaracho booked in the 18th minute, while Arce was shown a yellow card just before the break. Independ. Rivadavia made an early adjustment when S. Studer was replaced by A. Vigo in the 27th minute.

Second-half substitutions change the match

Independ. Rivadavia took the lead in the 70th minute through F. Sartori, who had entered for M. Salas two minutes earlier. The quick impact of that substitution proved decisive. G. Rios was booked in the 74th minute, and Racing made further changes around the same period, bringing on A. Campo and A. Fernandez for T. Conechny and M. Zaracho in the 63rd minute before U. Ortegoza replaced D. Vergara in the 76th.

Arce completed the scoring in the 90th minute, converting his later opportunity from open play after his earlier penalty miss. A. Fernandez and J. I. Florentin Bobadilla were also booked, in the 78th and 86th minutes respectively. Neither side received a red card.

Racing had possession, but Rivadavia created more danger

Racing controlled more of the ball, holding 55% possession and completing 317 passes compared with Independ. Rivadavia’s 45% and 254 passes. The visitors also recorded more accurate passes, 238 to 180. However, the scoreline reflected the hosts’ greater threat in key areas: Independ. Rivadavia had 15 total shots to Racing’s 11, led 9-6 in shots inside the box and put seven efforts on target compared with four.

Racing goalkeeper F. Cambeses made five saves, while Independ. Rivadavia’s goalkeeper made three. Racing’s five shots off target and two blocked efforts underlined the difference between possession and end product, as the hosts converted their stronger attacking numbers into three goals.

Result reshapes the Clausura picture

Independ. Rivadavia entered the round 10th in Clausura Group B with eight points from six matches and now move to 11 points after their second-half win. Racing Club, who began 14th with five points, remain on that total after another defeat. The result extends Independ. Rivadavia’s positive latest result, while Racing add to a difficult run that began with three consecutive losses in their listed pre-match form.

Sartori was the standout performer, earning an 8.0 rating after playing only 10 minutes and scoring the winning goal. Rios also made a major contribution with a goal and three shots on target, helping Independ. Rivadavia turn an even first half into a clear victory.
