Gimnasia M. turn five shots into a 3-0 win at Independiente

Gimnasia M. defeated Independiente 3-0 at Libertadores de America in Buenos Aires on Sunday, August 30, securing a convincing Liga Profesional Argentina Clausura result. The visitors led 1-0 at half-time and added two more goals early in the second half to settle the match in a decisive 18-minute spell.

The opening goal arrived in the 42nd minute, when Esteban Fernández finished with an assist from Facundo Lencioni. That strike gave Gimnasia M. the advantage before the break, despite Independiente having more of the ball during the match. The home side held 61% possession and completed 225 passes, compared with 39% possession and 128 accurate passes for Gimnasia M.

Gimnasia extended its lead eight minutes after the restart. Lencioni scored in the 53rd minute, with Fernández providing the assist this time. Lencioni then struck again in the 60th minute, completing his double from another Fernández assist. The goals made the connection between the two Gimnasia attackers the defining feature of the contest, with each player contributing a goal and an assist.
