23 Shots, 67% Possession: Lillestrom Lose 2-1 to Torreense

Torreense secured a 2-1 win over Lillestrom in the UEFA Europa League League Stage on Thursday, recovering from Lillestrom’s territorial dominance to claim all three goals and the victory. Torreense led 1-0 at half-time after Alejandro Alfaro opened the scoring in the 23rd minute.

Torreense make their chances count

Alfaro finished a move assisted by David Bruno to give Torreense the lead. Manuel Pozo doubled the advantage four minutes after the restart, with Javi Vázquez providing the assist. The second goal gave Luís Tralhão’s 4-2-3-1 side a two-goal cushion despite Lillestrom seeing more of the ball and producing the greater volume of attempts.

Lillestrom’s response came in the 79th minute. Thomas Lehne Olsen, introduced for Fredrik Gulbrandsen in the 60th minute, pulled one back from Felix Vá’s assist. The goal made the closing stages more competitive, but Torreense held on for the win.

Lillestrom control possession but fall short

Discipline shapes the finish

The match became more difficult for Torreense late on when Nuha Jatta was sent off in the 85th minute. Jatta had been booked in the 69th minute, while Manuel Pozo and David Bruno also received yellow cards for Torreense. Lillestrom’s only booking went to Fredrik Gulbrandsen in the 58th minute. Both teams committed 14 fouls.

Alfaro leads Torreense’s effort

Alejandro Alfaro was the standout performer, receiving a match rating of 8.2 after playing all 90 minutes. His goal, one shot on target, key pass and two tackles captured his influence in a match where Torreense made the most of its attacking moments. Javi Vázquez also impressed with four key passes and an assist in 87 minutes.

The result leaves Lillestrom listed 21st in the League Round table and Torreense 25th, with both shown on zero points from zero games. For Lillestrom, the defeat adds a loss to a pre-match sequence of a draw and a win. Torreense had no recent form data listed before the match.
