Huracan strike twice to defeat River Plate 2-1

Huracan defeated River Plate 2-1 at Estadio Mâs Monumental on Saturday, overturning River’s statistical dominance to claim all three points in the Liga Profesional Argentina Clausura. Huracan led 1-0 at half-time after an early goal from Oscar Cortés, while Lucas Blondel’s 80th-minute finish proved decisive after Tomás Galván had equalised for the hosts.

Cortés gives Huracan an early lead

Huracan moved in front after nine minutes when Cortés scored a normal goal. River responded with extended possession, but the visitors carried their advantage into the interval. River dominate the numbers but not the result

The scoreline did not reflect River’s control of the ball. Leonardo Ponzio’s side held 75% possession, completed 621 passes at an 87% accuracy rate and recorded 20 shots to Huracan’s seven. River also had four corners and produced 12 shots inside the box. Huracan had none inside the area, yet converted twice from its limited attacking output.

River registered three shots on target against Huracan’s two, while the visitors’ goalkeeper made two saves. The expected-goals figures also favoured River, 1.62 to 0.23, underlining how efficiently Huracan protected its lead and took its key chances.

River entered the round seventh in Clausura Group B with 13 points from nine matches. The defeat leaves the club on 13 points after 10 games. Huracan, previously ninth with 13 points from nine matches, moved to 16 points after its victory. River’s latest result is a loss after its most recent pre-match win, while Huracan followed a draw with a win.

Fausto Vera was the highest-rated player, receiving 8.5 after playing 92 minutes. He contributed two key passes and two tackles despite River’s defeat. Blondel was Huracan’s standout contributor among the scorers, earning an 8.2 rating and adding eight tackles to his winning goal.
