New England Revolution
Los Angeles Galaxy defeated New England Revolution 2-1 at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday, securing three points in Major League Soccer’s Regular Season - 23. The Galaxy led 2-0 at half-time before New England’s late response created a tense finish, but the home side held on.
Galaxy make fast start
Los Angeles Galaxy took control in the opening half. William Sands was booked for New England in the 10th minute, and one minute later Marco Reus converted a penalty to put the hosts ahead. Reus, who completed the match with a 7.5 rating, finished with one goal, one shot on target, two key passes and two tackles.
The Galaxy doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute. Robert Taylor scored a normal goal after receiving the assist from Hirving Lozano, giving Greg Vanney’s 4-3-3 formation a two-goal cushion. Taylor played 73 minutes and earned a 7.3 rating, with one shot on target and one tackle.
Revolution apply pressure after break
New England improved their attacking output after half-time and finished with the greater share of possession, 52% to 48%. The Revolution also had a clear advantage in shots, attempting 24 to Los Angeles’ eight, including 19 shots from inside the box compared with seven for the Galaxy. However, much of that pressure did not produce an equaliser: New England put seven shots on goal but sent 13 off target.
Los Angeles goalkeeper J. Marcinkowski was the standout performer, receiving a 7.8 rating after making six saves in 90 minutes. His contribution was central to the Galaxy protecting their lead, particularly as New England created more opportunities. Carles Gil also rated 7.8 for the Revolution, scoring from the penalty spot in the 90th minute and recording three shots on target and four key passes.
Late penalty sets up finish
The Galaxy made changes during the second half, including the introductions of Lucas Agustin·Sanabria Magole, Pablo Ruiz, Isaiah Parente and Joseph Paintsil. New England brought on Dániel Gazdag and Wilson Harris. Hirving Lozano was booked in the 62nd minute, while Harbor Miller also received a yellow card for Los Angeles. Jack Harrison and Mamadou Fofana were booked for New England, which finished with three yellow cards to the Galaxy’s two. Neither side received a red card.
Gil’s 90th-minute penalty reduced the deficit, but New England could not find a second goal. The result lifts Los Angeles from 26 to 29 points after 24 games, while New England remain on 37 points after 23 matches. The Galaxy, previously coming off a loss, return to winning form; the Revolution follow their latest defeat with another loss. New England entered the match fourth in the Eastern Conference, while Los Angeles were 13th in the Western Conference.
