2-0 Win Gives Frosinone Reward for Clinical First Half

Frosinone defeated Como 2-0 at Stadio Benito Stirpe on Sunday, securing a home win in Serie A Round 5. The hosts led 2-0 at half-time after goals from Giacomo Calò and Giorgi Kvernadze, then protected the advantage through the second half.

Frosinone make first-half advantage count

Frosinone broke the deadlock in the 14th minute. Calò scored with Romano Schmid providing the assist, giving Massimiliano Alvini’s side an early lead in the meeting between two teams using a 4-2-3-1 formation.

The second goal arrived just before the interval. Kvernadze finished in the 45th minute, again assisted by Schmid, and Frosinone went into the break two goals ahead. The timing made it a significant turning point, leaving Como needing a quick response after half-time.

Como controlled the ball but could not score

The statistics showed a match that was more competitive than the final score suggested. Como held 65% possession and completed 487 passes at an 87% accuracy rate, compared with Frosinone’s 248 passes and 73% accuracy. Como also attempted more shots, 26 to 22, and had eight shots on target against six.

Those figures did not translate into goals. Como’s expected-goals figure was 2.17, slightly above Frosinone’s 1.96, while the visitors also earned eight corners to the hosts’ seven. Frosinone’s defensive work and finishing made the difference, despite Como’s greater control of the ball and higher shot total.

Second-half changes fail to alter the result

Como made three substitutions at half-time, bringing on S. Ricci, M. Kean and J. Rodriguez for L. Da Cunha, A. Douvikas and M. Baturina. Further changes followed in the 73rd minute, when M. Perrone and Kaiki replaced L. Milla and A. Valle. Frosinone made a change in the 53rd minute, with G. Cittadini replacing I. Monterisi.

The disciplinary record remained limited but included five yellow cards. Y. Couto was booked for Como in the 34th minute, while Kvernadze was cautioned after scoring. G. Bracaglia and A. Raimondo were later booked for Frosinone, with A. Diao receiving Como’s second yellow card in the 90th minute.

Palmisani stands out as Frosinone take points

Lorenzo Palmisani was the highest-rated player, earning 9.9 after making seven saves in 95 minutes and contributing one key pass. His performance helped Frosinone withstand Como’s attacking pressure and preserve the clean sheet.

Before the match, Frosinone had seven points from four games and Como had 10. The result gives Frosinone a third win of the campaign and leaves Como with its first defeat, changing their recent sequences to a win followed by a loss for Como and adding a win to Frosinone’s form.
