15 shots and 75% possession carry Boca Juniors past San Lorenzo

Boca control the contest

Boca Juniors beat San Lorenzo 2-0 at Pedro Bidegain in the Liga Profesional Argentina Clausura, taking all three points in Round 10. The visitors held the advantage in possession and chance creation, while San Lorenzo’s task became more difficult when M. Insaurralde was sent off in the 31st minute.

Boca had already established the stronger statistical platform before the breakthrough. They finished with 75% possession, 15 total shots and eight corners, compared with four shots and two corners for San Lorenzo. Boca also completed 597 passes at 91% accuracy, while San Lorenzo recorded 188 passes at 71% accuracy. The expected-goals figures, 2.11 to 0.21, reflected the difference in attacking output.

Lozano breaks the deadlock

The numerical disadvantage forced San Lorenzo to adjust early. A. Cuello was replaced by J. Rattalino four minutes after the red card, and further changes followed after the interval. Boca also made a change at half-time, with M. Pellegrino replacing F. Herrera.

Boca converted their pressure in the 57th minute. L. Flores supplied the assist for L. Lozano, who scored a normal goal to put the visitors ahead. Lozano was later booked in the 41st minute, before finding the net after the break. San Lorenzo responded with two substitutions in the 55th minute, sending on J. Alvarez and D. Herazo, but Boca continued to produce the clearer opportunities.

Merentiel seals the result

Miguel Merentiel doubled Boca’s advantage in the 72nd minute. Lautaro Blanco provided the assist, adding to a productive performance that included four key passes. San Lorenzo made two more changes around the second goal, with M. Reali and F. Gulli entering, but the home side could not reduce the deficit.

José Devecchi made four saves for San Lorenzo, limiting the damage despite Boca’s superiority. Boca registered six shots on target, 11 shots inside the box and three blocked efforts. San Lorenzo managed one shot on target. The visitors’ control did not produce a larger scoreline partly because Devecchi’s saves kept the margin to two goals.

Boca gain ground in the Clausura

Leandro Paredes was the highest-rated player, receiving 8.7 after 90 minutes. He recorded one shot on target, one key pass and four tackles. Blanco also rated 7.9, matching Devecchi’s mark, while Lozano received 7.7 for his goal.

Before the match, Boca were sixth in Clausura Group A with 14 points from nine games, while San Lorenzo were 10th with 11 points from nine. Boca’s victory takes them to 17 points after 10 matches. San Lorenzo remain on 11 points. The result also adds a win to Boca’s recent record and gives San Lorenzo another defeat in a campaign that had begun this round with four losses.
