1-1 draw leaves Galaxy two points above Sounders

A 1-1 draw after 17 shots each

Los Angeles Galaxy and Seattle Sounders drew 1-1 at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday, September 13. The Galaxy led at half-time through Marco Reus’s penalty, but Seattle recovered after the interval and levelled through Paul Arriola in the 81st minute. The result leaves Los Angeles 12th in the Western Conference with 29 points from 25 matches, while Seattle remains 13th with 27 points from 22 games.

Reus penalty gives Galaxy the lead

The opening goal arrived in the 44th minute. Reus converted from the penalty spot to put Los Angeles ahead just before the break. The Galaxy held that advantage through half-time despite Seattle’s ability to retain possession and move the ball accurately. Seattle made its first change at the interval, replacing Paul Rothrock with Sebastian Gomez.

The visitors continued to adjust after the restart. Kalani Kossa-Rienzi was replaced by Peter Kingston in the 62nd minute, while Los Angeles made a triple change five minutes later, bringing on Pablo Ruiz, Harbor Miller and Klauss for Erik Thommy, Robert Taylor and Kyogo Furuhashi. Reus then left for Lucas Agustin·Sanabria Magole in the 79th minute.

Seattle responds through Arriola

Arriola equalised two minutes after entering the match’s closing stages. His normal goal in the 81st minute was assisted by Jordan Morris, bringing Seattle level at 1-1. The Sounders finished with the stronger attacking output on target, recording eight shots on goal to the Galaxy’s five. Los Angeles goalkeeper J. Marcinkowski made seven saves, while Seattle’s A. Thomas made four.

Statistics point to a balanced contest

Seattle had 52% possession and completed 389 accurate passes from 441 attempts, compared with Los Angeles’s 333 accurate passes from 402. However, the overall shot count was almost even: 18 for the Galaxy and 17 for the Sounders. Los Angeles had more shots outside the box, 7-5, while Seattle led 12-11 for efforts from inside the area. The Galaxy also won five corners to Seattle’s three. Seattle committed 15 fouls, compared with nine by Los Angeles.

The only disciplinary incidents came in the 90th minute, when Kingston and Hassani Dotson were booked for Seattle. There were no red cards, and Los Angeles received no yellow cards.

Arriola makes the biggest late impact

Arriola was the standout performer by match rating, earning 8.1 after 11 minutes on the field. His goal directly changed the result. Morris also had a major influence with an assist, three shots on target and four key passes in 90 minutes. For Los Angeles, Marcinkowski’s seven saves helped preserve a point after Seattle’s second-half response.

The draw extends two uneven recent sequences without separating the teams in the table. Los Angeles entered with a mixed run that most recently began Draw, Win, Loss, while Seattle’s listed recent form began Win, Loss, Win. Both sides leave with a point, with the Galaxy still two points above the Sounders in the Western Conference standings.
