1-1 Draw Ends Monaco’s Perfect Start at Strasbourg

A level finish after two decisive goals

Strasbourg and Monaco drew 1-1 at Stade de la Meinau in Ligue 1 on Saturday. The result ended Monaco’s run of three straight league wins, while Strasbourg added a point after entering the match with two victories and one defeat.

The first listed scoring incident came in the 52nd minute, when Strasbourg’s Sadibou Sane was recorded with an own goal. Monaco then found the net through Paris Brunner in the 71st minute, with Lamine Camara providing the assist. Those two events produced a share of the points in a match that remained level at full time.

Monaco had more control, but Strasbourg created volume

Monaco held 56% possession and completed 509 accurate passes from 560 attempts, compared with Strasbourg’s 368 accurate passes from 439. The visitors also won seven corners to Strasbourg’s two and produced more shots inside the box, 8-6. Their three shots on goal were one more than Strasbourg managed.

However, the shot totals did not fully reflect Monaco’s territorial advantage. Strasbourg attempted 13 shots overall, one more than Monaco, and had eight efforts off target compared with six for the visitors. Strasbourg also registered seven shots from outside the box, while Monaco had four. Both goalkeepers made two saves, underlining the limited margin between the sides despite Monaco’s greater possession.

Changes shaped the second half

The teams made several important alterations around the interval and after the scoring events. Monaco replaced Anis Soubeir with Matthis Abline in the 22nd minute, while Strasbourg introduced Dario Essugo for Diogo Sousa at half time. Strasbourg later brought on Conrad Harder for Jacobo Ortega in the 69th minute, two minutes before Monaco replaced Stanis Idumbo with Mathys Detourbet.

Strasbourg used two further changes late on, with Samir El-Mourabet replacing Giovanni Reyna in the 81st minute and Samuel Amo-Ameyaw coming on for Sebastian Nanasi one minute later.

Brunner leads the individual ratings

Brunner was the standout performer, earning a match rating of 8.2 after playing all 90 minutes. His goal, two shots on target and two key passes made him Monaco’s most influential attacking player. Camara also made a clear contribution with the assist, four tackles and a 7.7 rating, while Monaco’s E. Dier and Aleksandr Golovin also completed the full match.

The only cautions went to Strasbourg’s Pape Demba Diop in the 78th minute and Monaco’s Golovin in the 90th. There were no red cards. The draw gives Strasbourg seven points after four matches and Monaco 10, leaving both teams with unbeaten records in this gameweek’s latest form sequence.
