1-0 win lifts Hull City to sixth as Millar punishes Coventry

Hull City secured a 1-0 win away to Coventry at the Coventry Building Society Arena, with Liam Millar scoring the decisive goal in the 82nd minute. The result gives Hull three points from their opening Premier League game and moves them to sixth place, while Coventry remain 18th with no points after one match.

Millar makes the difference

The match was settled late when Millar found the net for Hull City, converting a normal goal after an assist from Mohamed Belloumi. Millar had entered in the 59th minute for Elliot Stroud and needed only 31 minutes to make a decisive impact. He finished as the highest-rated player on the pitch with an 8.1 rating, also recording one shot on target.

Belloumi was another important contributor for the visitors. His assist created the winning moment, and he completed the game with a 7.5 rating, one key pass and two tackles. Hull’s defensive structure also held firm after taking the lead, with goalkeeper saves helping preserve the advantage.

Coventry control possession but cannot score

Coventry had the greater share of the ball and much of the passing play, recording 67% possession and 565 total passes compared with Hull’s 33% and 259 passes. The home side also had the higher volume of attempts, producing 11 shots to Hull’s five, including seven efforts from inside the box.

Despite that territorial control, Coventry could not turn pressure into a goal. They registered three shots on target, while Hull managed two, and Hull goalkeeper saves were recorded at three compared with one for Coventry. Coventry also won six corners to Hull’s two and had five blocked shots, but the visitors’ 5-4-1 formation, managed by S. Jakirović, ultimately protected the narrow lead. F. Lampard’s Coventry used a 4-2-3-1 but finished the game without finding a breakthrough.

Cards and second-half changes

Hull collected four yellow cards during the match. Lewie Coyle was booked in the 10th minute, followed by Regan Slater in the 51st, Elliot Stroud in the 54th and Oliver McBurnie in the 68th. Coventry received one booking, shown to Aurele Amenda in the 84th minute. There were no red cards.

Hull made two changes at half-time, replacing Hidemasa Morita with Lucas Gourna-Douath and Coyle with Cody Drameh. Coventry introduced Brandon Thomas-Asante and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto shortly after the interval, while Hull later brought on Millar and Lucas Herrington. The win extends Hull’s positive form from their most recent result, while Coventry’s latest loss leaves them still searching for their first points.
