Ángel Di María’s penalty lifts Rosario Central past Tigre

Rosario Central make possession count in 1-0 win

Rosario Central defeated Tigre 1-0 in the ninth round of the Liga Profesional Argentina Clausura, with Ángel Di María scoring the only goal from the penalty spot. The result gave Rosario Central the win after a match in which they controlled more of the ball but had to withstand a competitive response from Tigre.

The decisive moment arrived in the 60th minute, when Di María converted a penalty for Rosario Central. Tigre had remained in the game through the opening hour, but the spot-kick gave the visitors the lead and ultimately settled the match. Di María was replaced by Gaspar Duarte in the 81st minute after completing his key contribution.

Rosario Central made two changes in the 68th minute, sending on Giovanni Ismael Cantizano for Jaminton Campaz. Central lead the statistical contest

Rosario Central had 58% possession and completed 385 passes, compared with Tigre’s 42% and 246 accurate passes. Their total passing figures were 467 to 325, underlining the visitors’ greater control of the ball. They also recorded six shots on target to Tigre’s three.

The shot totals were closer than the scoreline suggested: Tigre attempted 12, one more than Rosario Central’s 11. Both teams produced seven shots from inside the box, while Tigre had five efforts from outside it to Central’s four. Tigre also registered two blocked shots, whereas Rosario Central had none. F. Zenobio made six saves for Tigre, and Rosario Central’s goalkeeper made three, keeping the hosts from finding an equaliser.

Coronel sent off after the goal

Discipline became a major late factor. Tigre received yellow cards for Mauro Méndez, Santiago Lopez Grobin, Valentín Moreno and Alan Barrionuevo. Rosario Central’s Emanuel Coronel was booked in the 64th minute and then shown a red card in the 76th, leaving his side with 10 players for the closing stages. Rosario Central still held on, despite Tigre finishing with the numerical advantage.

Points shift in the Clausura table

Before the match, Tigre were eighth in Clausura Group B with 12 points from eight games, while Rosario Central were ninth with the same total. Rosario Central’s victory takes them to 15 points, and Tigre remain on 12. G. Ávila was the standout performer, earning a 7.9 rating after playing all 90 minutes and making two tackles. The win also ends the matchday with Rosario Central ahead on points from this fixture, while Tigre leave without adding to their total.
