2-0 Down, Dortmund Complete a 3-2 Comeback at Hoffenheim

Dortmund turn 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 victory

Borussia Dortmund came from two goals behind to defeat 1899 Hoffenheim 3-2 at the SNP Arena in Sinsheim, securing the win in a match that changed direction after half-time. Hoffenheim led 1-0 at the interval and extended that advantage early in the second half, but Dortmund responded with three goals, including an own goal, to take all three points.

Hoffenheim opened the scoring in the 45th minute. Vladimír Coufal provided the assist for Leon Avdullahu, who finished to put the home side ahead just before the break. The hosts then doubled their lead in the 54th minute when Adam Daghim set up Tim Lemperle. Lemperle’s goal appeared to put Hoffenheim in control, but Dortmund quickly began its recovery.

Serhou Guirassy started the comeback in the 61st minute, converting after an assist from Waldemar Anton. Guirassy then contributed again five minutes later, assisting Fábio Silva for Dortmund’s equaliser. Silva had entered in the 62nd minute and made an immediate impact, scoring after replacing Konstantinos Karetsas. Dortmund completed the turnaround in the 86th minute when Albian Hajdari put the ball into his own net.

Hoffenheim had more of the ball but not the result

The statistics showed a different picture from the final score in several areas. Hoffenheim held 60% possession and completed 391 accurate passes from 486 total, compared with Dortmund’s 249 accurate passes from 327. The home side also attempted more shots, 18 to 11, and produced six shots on goal to Dortmund’s four. Hoffenheim’s 10 corners and greater volume from outside the box, where it recorded seven attempts to Dortmund’s one, further reflected its territorial pressure.

Dortmund were more efficient in front of goal, however, scoring three times from their 11 attempts. The visitors also made four goalkeeper saves, while Hoffenheim made two. The contrast between Hoffenheim’s possession and shot advantage and Dortmund’s victory made efficiency and the second-half response decisive.

Discipline and match impact

Ozan Kabak was booked in the 40th minute, while Albian Hajdari received a yellow card in the 45th before later scoring the own goal. Wouter Burger, Andrej Kramarić, Luca Reggiani and Maximilian Beier were also cautioned. There were no red cards. Dortmund made several changes during the match, including the introductions of Ethan Nwaneri, Joey Veerman, Fábio Silva and Luca Reggiani.

Guirassy was the standout performer, earning a match rating of 8.9 after 87 minutes, with one goal, one assist and two shots on target. The victory follows Dortmund’s most recent win and places them fifth in the listed Bundesliga standings with three points from one game, while Hoffenheim, coming off a loss, are listed 13th with no points from one game.
