Lanus 1-3 Independiente: Millán Double Decides Clausura Match

Independiente defeated Lanus 3-1 at Estadio Ciudad de Lanus on Monday, August 17, taking all three points in Liga Profesional Argentina’s Clausura Round 5. Lautaro Millán’s two-goal contribution gave the visitors control, while Lanus created the greater volume of attacking play but could not convert it into a result.

Independiente Strike Twice to Seize Control

Independiente, set up in Gustavo Quinteros’ 4-1-4-1, broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. Lautaro Millán finished a move assisted by S. Montiel, sending the visitors into half-time with a 1-0 lead against Mauricio Pellegrino’s Lanus side.

Lanus Respond but Miss Chances

Lanus responded quickly through Allan Wlk, who reduced the deficit to 2-1 in the 50th minute after receiving a pass from Ramiro Carrera. The goal gave the home side a route back into the match, and Lanus continued to press for an equaliser.

The statistics showed that Lanus carried much of the attacking threat despite trailing. The hosts had 52% possession, 20 total shots and nine corners, compared with Independiente’s 14 shots and five corners, while their expected-goals figure was also higher at 1.87 to 1.16.

Independiente’s advantage came from resisting that pressure effectively. Rodrigo Rey made five saves for the visitors, compared with one for Lanus, and Facundo Zabala contributed six tackles as Independiente protected their narrow lead.

Late Goal and Carrera’s Red Card

Lanus’ attempt to complete the recovery ended in the 90th minute when M. Gutierrez restored Independiente’s two-goal advantage. M. Abaldo supplied the assist, making the score 3-1 and settling the contest late on.

The closing stages also brought a significant disciplinary setback for Lanus. Ramiro Carrera was booked in the 69th minute before receiving another yellow card and a red card in the 90th, leaving the hosts with ten players; B. Acosta was also cautioned, while I. Marcone, G. Avalos and Rey went into the book for Independiente.

Millán Shines as Independiente Climb to Nine Points

Millán was the clear individual standout, scoring twice, recording two shots on target and earning a 9.0 rating during his 61 minutes on the pitch. His goals at key moments transformed a competitive match into an Independiente victory.

Both teams had six points after four Clausura matches, with Lanus sixth and Independiente eighth in Group A before this fixture. The result took Independiente to nine points, while Lanus remained on six, and the visitors ended the round with a result that belied Lanus’ possession, shot count and higher expected-goals total.
